“To get the attention of in-demand choreographers you have to be prepared to pay their travel expenses on top of their fees, which can be pretty prohibitive,” said Arthur Espinoza, TWB’s director of artistic operations. “Being able to take travel costs out of the equation means we have more funding to spend elsewhere, which could ultimately determine whether a choreographer comes to TWB or contracts with another company.”
A portion of this season’s agreement with Amtrak has already been earmarked to bring top emerging choreographer Edwaard Liang to DC to create a new work for TWB along with composer Matthew Pierce who will craft an original score to accompany a new work by Webre.
