Hey Y’all! Hope everyone is enjoying the New Year so far. December went by like a whirlwind full of sugar plums, mushrooms, snow angels, clowns, nutcrackers and Shirley MacLaine. Wait, what? Yes, the incredible, wonderful, amazing Shirley MacLaine paid her ballet alma mater a visit. As a youth Ms. MacLaine studied at The Washington School of Ballet under legendary founder Mary Day. Ms. MacLaine, who was in town for the Kennedy Center Honors, took a walk down memory lane and toured the studios, answered questions and talked about about how the dedication to excellence, discipline and hard work she learned while studying under Ms. Day contributed to her later success as an actress, dancer, writer and more.

Our first Nutcracker Family Day was a huge success as TWB welcomed and entertained a full house of families at the Warner Theatre! Kids of all ages enjoyed barre demonstrations, rehearsals, “meet and greets” with Clara and Drosselmeyer, autographs and photographs with their favorite dancers/characters and much more!

We had a slew of “special” guests grace the stage on various evenings for The Nutcracker—Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Michael P. Barrett and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral James A. Winnefeld, Jr. for Military Night, Sue Palka and Tucker Barnes from Fox 5, and the Racing Presidents from The Nationals, replete in their own tutus!

The Nutcracker was an incredible way to end 2013 and we enjoyed another great month at the Warner Theatre and the Willard Hotel for the Nutcracker Tea Party:

Everyone had a brief, but restful, break and are back in the studios gearing up for the remainder of our SOARING season. Take a look at our spring line-up and get excited with me!
