NW Campus


Auditions for the 2013-2014 school year will be held on JUNE 15 (ages 5-19), JULY 20 (ages 5-10), and AUGUST 17 (ages 5-19) at the following times and locations on the TWSB NW Campus.

Ages 4 to 5
Registration: 9:30 AM
Audition: 10:00 - 11:00 AM
Location: England Studio

Ages 6 to 7
Registration: 10:30 AM
Audition: 11:15 - 12:15 PM
Location: England Studio

Ages 8 to 10
Registration: 12:00 NOON
Audition: 12:30 - 2:00PM
Location: England Studio

Ages 11 to 14 (June and August Only)
Registration: 9:30 AM
Audition: 10:00 -11:30 AM
Location: Phillips Studio.

Ages 14 and up (June and August Only)
Registration: 11:30 AM
Audition: 12:00 – 1:30 PM

SE Campus at THEARC

Parents of children ages 5 and older, please call the office at 202.889.8150 to schedule an audition. For children ages 4, please contact Mary Wroth, School Coordinator, at 202.274.4533 or email mwroth@washingtonballet.org An audition fee of $25 will be assessed at the time of the audition for the June 29, $30 fee for the July 20 audition, $35 fee for the August 17 auditions, a $40 audition fee will be charged for the September 7 audition dates.

What to Expect

Students will participate in a technique class and be assessed according to technical ability and age-appropriate standards. Prior experience will also be taken into consideration.

Attire

Girls should wear a leotard, tights, and ballet shoes (students on pointe should bring pointe shoes). Boys should wear black tights and a white T-shirt. However, if your child has never danced before, he/she may wear form fitting, comfortable clothing for the audition. Please remove all jewelry and be certain that the student's hair is pulled away from his/her face and secured, preferably in a bun in the case of girls.

Alexandria, VA Campus at the Athenaeum

Classes for the Alexandria campus at the Athenaeum will audition with students at the Northwest campus. Please follow the schedule above.

DVD Auditions

Ages 13+: If you are unable to attend scheduled auditions, you may submit a DVD audition via mail or provide a hyperlink to your audition presentation. Please submit a downloaded registration form, headshot, payment of $40 (your audition will not be processed unless payment is rendered). DVD auditions should be no longer than 10 minutes and include a brief introduction by the student.with name, age and years of study.Your audition DVD will be reviewed by TWSB faculty and your results will be emailed to you within two weeks.

Please include at the barre: 1 tendu exercise, adagio, grande battement. Center work – battement tendu/ jetes with pirouettes, adagio, grande pirouettes, petit and grand allegro. Pointe work: releve on one leg and pirouettes, diagonal turns, fouettes for advanced levels. Gentlemen should include: tours en l’air, a la seconde turns. A variation may be included but is not expected from younger students.
