Southeast Campus Summer Dance Program

SUMMER DANCE PROGRAM GENERAL INFORMATION

The Washington Ballet @THEARC offers a Summer Dance Program, Summer Evening Program, and Summer Adult Open Classes.

The Washington Ballet @THEARC’s Summer Dance Program consists of four weeks of study.

A total of 75 students will be accepted to the daytime program (25 students per level). There are three levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Students age 7 and up are eligible for the program.Students must either audition for our program or have completed level 1A.

Space is limited and registration is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

AUDITIONS

Auditions for students aged 4 and up will be held the weeks of February 17, March 17, April 7 and May 5. If spaces are still available after these auditions, we will hold additional auditions the week of June 2. Parents must call to schedule auditions since they will occur during our regularly scheduled classes. A non-refundable audition fee is due at the time of audition. Fee schedule listed below:

Audition Fee: February 1-March 31, 2015 is $30 and April 1-May 31, 2015 is $40

ABOUT THE SUMMER DANCE PROGRAM CURRICULUM

Level 1 (Ballet 1A, 1C or approval by director)

Students will participate in ballet, jazz, African dance, cultural dance, art, music and repertory.

Level 2 (Ballet 1B, Ballet 2 or approval by director)

Students will participate in ballet, stretch class, jazz, modern, African dance, music and repertory.

Level 3 (Ballet 3, Ballet 4/5 or approval by director)

Students will participate in ballet, pointe, stretch class, jazz, modern, music and choreography.

SE SUMMER INTENSIVE FAQ'S

How much is tuition?

To make the SE Campus’ Summer Dance Intensive accessible to all income levels, tuition is based on a sliding fee scale. Income verification is required during the registration phase. The cost for the Summer Dance Program is based on seven payment groups ranging from $150-$1100 per child. Payment plans are available. A non-refundable fee is due at the time of audition. Full payment must be received by Friday, June 6, 2014.

Will my child perform?

There will be a culminating event on the last day of the intensive. Students of all levels will perform. Parents and guardians are invited to attend this showing.

When do I pick up my child?

Please make arrangements to pick up your child by 3 PM each day. Only parents or designated adults are allowed to sign-out their children. A 15-minute grace period is allowed; parents will be charged $1 per minute past the grace period.

Is there an option for before and after care?

The Boys and Girls Club offers a limited number of discounted slots for families interested in before and after care. If interested, contact The Boys and Girls Club at 202.610.9707. Children may be at the facility as early as 7AM for before care, and from 3-6PM for after care.

What is the uniform?

The dress code during the Summer Day Program is as follows:

Girls: Any solid colored leotard, pink convertible ballet tights and pink leather ballet slippers (pointe shoes for Levels 3+)

Boys: White leotard, grey tights, white socks, and ballet slippers.

Students are also required to purchase a black leotard, black jazz pants and black jazz shoes (no jazz sneakers). Students taking African dance will be required to purchase a Lappa.

SUMMER EVENING PROGRAM

The Summer Evening Program offers ballet technique classes for children ages 4-16. The program includes the following levels: Pre Ballet 1, Pre Ballet 2, Pre Ballet 3, Ballet 1C and Beginner Teen Ballet. Classes meet twice a week. The curriculum and dress code follow those of our Fall/Spring school program.

The tuition for our summer evening classes ranges from $40 to $325 based on class level and our sliding fee scale. Payment plans are available. A non-refundable fee is due prior to registration. Full payment must be received by Friday, June 6, 2014.

Although Evening Program students will not have a formal performance, parents and guardians will have the opportunity to see their children’s progress during our parent observation week the last week of summer classes.
