Adult Classes

The Washington Ballet @ THEARC offers open adult classes on a drop-in basis throughout the year. Students may join classes at any time of the year-no audition or pre-registration is necessary. We encourage students who are unsure about their level to try a class and discuss their placement with the instructor.

The Washington Ballet @ THEARC has no required dress code for adult students. We do encourage students to wear a leotard, tights, and ballet slippers, but students are welcome to wear clothing that is comfortable and allows easy movement. Hair should be pulled back from the face and off of the neck. Cost: classes are $10.00 per class, or $8.00 with purchase of class card. Class cards are $100 and are good for 12 classes. Adult fees are also on a sliding fee scale, and income will be assessed at the time of purchase. Cards expire four months after the date of purchase; unused classes will not carry over to a new card.

Youth Classes

The School programs run for a full school year, September through June, and we do not hold mid-year auditions. Auditions for 2008.2009 school year will take place on June 21, June 26 and August 23, 2008. Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to audtioning. Please call 202.889.8150 to receive a registration form prior to the audition.

What to Expect

Students will participate in a technique class and will be assessed according to technical ability and age-appropriate standards. Prior experience will also be taken into consideration.

Attire

Girls should wear a leotard, tights, and ballet shoes (students on pointe should bring pointe shoes). Boys should wear black tights and a white T-shirt. However, if your child has never danced before, you may bring them in form fitting, comfortable clothing for the audition. Please remove all jewelry and be certain that the student's hair is pulled away from their face and secured, preferably in a bun.

Students who are accepted into The Washington Ballet @ THEARC must enroll for the entire school year. In order to audition for The Washington Ballet company productions, such as The Nutcracker, the dancer must be enrolled in The Washington School of Ballet for one year. Please check the school bulletin board in the reception area for updated notices regarding any Nutcracker auditions.
