The Season:
The 2022/2023 subscription season opens with NEXTsteps, TWB’s annual program of new works at Sidney Harman Hall. The program will feature premieres by some of today’s most exciting choreographers, including Silas Farley and Dana Genshaft, as well as a new work by TWB dancer and in-house talent Andile Ndlovu.
TWB’s beloved Washington, D.C. version of the holiday classic The Nutcracker follows in November and December, with four performances at THEARC and 37 performances at The Warner Theatre.
In winter and spring 2023, TWB will perform two programs in the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater: First, an all-Balanchine program, highlighting some of the most challenging and iconic 20th-century repertoire. In May, TWB will remount The Sleeping Beauty, revisiting the 2019 staging by Julie Kent and Victor Barbee that The Washington Post hailed as “lavish, triumphant….a splendid production.”
Also in spring 2023, TWB will makes its Company debut at the new Capital One Hall in Tysons Corner, Virginia, with a family friendly program designed to offer a survey of the art form. The program features classic, sumptuous story ballet with Aurora’s Wedding, the excerpted third act from Sleeping Beauty, as well as Theme & Variations, an iconic work by the ‘father of American ballet’ George Balanchine.
