From Cali Colombia, An accomplished ballet dancer and teacher. Danced with The Washington Ballet for 13 years as a principal dancer, National Ballet of Venezuela for two years and the Cali Ballet in his native Colombia for two years. Mr. Palau toured internationally with all three companies, dancing in festivals such as Havana Festival in Cuba, Festivals in Roma and Florence in Italy, Umbrella Festival in South Africa Johannesburg, International Festival in Miami, Florida, AIDS Foundation in Austin Texas; and performances at the White House and in the Memorial Day show, Washington, D.C. Galas and awards include 1st prize Arts Competition Colombia and nominated Best Classical Dancer Casa del Artista in Venezuela.
More recently featured in productions with Carolina Ballet Theater, Washington National Opera, Colorado Opera, short films by Jennifer Schwed, In the production Carmen Tango with the Pan American Symphony Orchestra, dance with Bowen McCauley Dance Company, Dana Tai Soon Burgess Company and choreographed works for Gala Hispanic Theater, The Source Theater and Moveius Contemporary Ballet at DanceLoft 14.
His repertoire includes many Classical ballets: Romeo and Juliet, Swan lake, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Carmen amount others, choreographed works by such artist as Maurice Bejart, Nils Christie, Jiri Kylian, Alberto Alonso, Balanchine, Forsythe, Duato, Tudor, Mark Morris, Tharp and Operas such as Don Giovanni, The pearl Fishers, Madame Butterfly and Turandot. Mr. Palau received his training at Colombian Ballet Institute, dance workshop with David Howard, and the summer program at the Houston School of Ballet.
Alvaro Palau loved to share his passion, knowledge and experiences in dance to inspire dancers of all edges. Teaching and coaching students and professional dancers is what he’s passionate about. He teaches in different ballet schools in the metropolitan area The Washington Ballet, Seber Method Academy, The Catholic university, Viva School, and Metropolitan Ballet Academy as well as a ballet master and rehearsal director for Moveius Contemporary Ballet.
