Natalie Moffett-Smith

Natalie is a native Washingtonian. She trained at the Washington School of Ballet under the direction of Mary Day and Choo San Goh. Her training also included Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, and Skidmore College with Meredith Baylis, Lupe Serrano, and Melissa Hayden. A company member of the Bristol/Virginia Ballet Company and Minnesota Ballet Company, she taught and choreographed for each of those companies’ affiliated schools. Returning to DC, she became a member of Eric Hampton Dance and Dana Tia Soon Burgess contemporary/modern dance companies. She went on to found and direct her own professional contemporary ballet company, DanceSmith, for 12 years. Natalie has performed both classical and contemporary works, and her choreography has been performed in the greater metropolitan area, including the Kennedy Center, nationally and internationally.
Natalie holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in dance. She has taught at the university and academy level as a faculty member of The George Washington University as well as George Mason University. The Washington School of Ballet, where she was repetiteur for Septime Webre’s Nutcracker and Maryland Youth Ballet where she was head of the contemporary ballet. Years of experience guides her true passion of teaching beginners through professionals, progressing students to their fullest potential.
