Tammy Hurt, a native Washingtonian, started her dance training at the Jones-Haywood School of Ballet and later became a member of the Capitol Ballet Company under the direction of Doris Jones and Claire Haywood. After an extensive dance career with some of the greatest choreographers of the times such as Louis Johnson, Kevin Jeff, George Faison, Hinton Battle, and Mike Malone, to name a few, Ms. Hurt decided to devote her life to teaching and spent several years as an Adjunct Teacher at Howard University, 10 years as the Director of the Jones-Haywood School of Ballet, 20 years teaching in the DCPS system and multiple decades teaching ballet and pointe in and around the DMV. Most recently, Ms. Tammy was the Director of Community Outreach at Collage Dance Collective in Memphis, Tennessee. She joined The Washington School of Ballet SE Campus as a faculty member in September 2021 before taking on the role as Principal.
As the Principal for the SE Campus, Hurt works with the School Director to ensure the artistic success of its students and faculty.
